Rehabilitating Infrastructure with Thermal Spray - The Video

Located on Long Island outside New York City, the State University of New York at Stony Brook is a world-renowned education and research institution. With the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, the Thermal Spray Laboratory (TSL) is a leader in thermally sprayed coatings. TSL is actively developing coatings for infrastructure rehabilitation. Protocols for the application of zinc, zine-aluminum alloy, aluminum titanium, and thermoplastics are being developed and field demonstrated. This extends from the site and substrate preparation through thermal spray activity, and coating assessment. As a part of this activity, the vitrification of lead containing paint is being investigated and demonstrated in the field.

Working with the Construction Engineering and Research Laboratories, the Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority in New York City, and New York State DOT, these coatings are being introduced and proved in coatings tests on area bridges as shown in the following photographs.
