Welcome to graduate school and the Department of Materials Science & Engineering. We all hope that you will have a rewarding time in our graduate program and that you will contribute to the program and the Department, and leave your mark of excellence on it.
This booklet is intended to provide you with important information about the Department and its graduate degree programs. Other information about the University and the Graduate School can be found in the Graduate Bulletin, and the Department also maintains an extensive Web page at www.matscieng.sunysb.edu. Please read all of these documents carefully, and refer to them as necessary. If anything is unclear, especially concerning rules, regulations and requirements, take the trouble to get your questions answered quickly, before they turn into problems. If you find that you have problems, then deal with them before they turn into crises. In general, you should approach your advisor or the graduate program director with any questions that you may have about the material in here or in the Bulletin.
