Extramural Ph.D. Program
A special Ph.D. degree program is offered by the Department of Materials Science and Engineering for interested part-time students. This option is intended for students whose employment requires them to engage in research upon materials and, with the permission of their employer it allows them to write their dissertation based upon that research. Admission to this program is limited to students who hold a Master's degree including courses equivalent to all, or nearly all of our core program. They must also demonstrate several years of research experience. Students are required to choose an academic advisor prior to acceptance into the program. The advisor and the student are then responsible for proposing a thesis project to be approved by the graduate committee. Further details about this program can be obtained from the Graduate Program Director. |
