FALL 1999 SEMESTER - ACADEMIC CALENDAR

Aug. 18-3, Wed.-Tue. - Final two weeks of advance registration for the Fall
1999 semester. Undergraduate students may now register for up to 19 credits
by telephone and in person based on class status.
Aug. 29, Sun. - Campus Residences new student check-in
Aug. 31, Tues. - Campus Residences continuing student check-in
Sept. 1, Wed. - Classes begin. Late registration begins with a $30 late fee
assessed for students who have not yet registered.
Last day for departments to advance doctoral students to candidacy.
Sept. 3, Fri. - Senior Citizen Auditor Program registration (telephone
631-632-9493 for information).
Sep. 6, Mon. - LABOR DAY HOLIDAY (Classes will not be in session)
Sep. 7, Tue. - Classes Resume
Sept. 8, Wed. - Students will follow a Monday class schedule. Last day for
students to drop a course without incurring a tuition liability.
Sept. 9, Thu. - Undergraduates must have 'Permission of Instructor' to add a
course in the second week of classes (Thursday, September 9 through
Wednesday, September 15). Undergraduates may continue to drop a course via
Telephone Registration System through Wednesday, September 15. Process adds
either at the Department or Registrar's Office.
Sept. 15, Wed. - End of late registration period for undergraduates and
SPD/GSP students. Last day for undergraduates and SPD/GSP students to add a
course. Last day for ALL undergraduate and graduate students to drop a course
without a "W" (withdrawal) being recorded. Last day for undergraduate
students to change status to or from full-time/part-time. Tuition and fee
liability remains applicable; Last day of 30% tuition liability.
Sept. 20, Mon. - Yom Kippur (Classes will not be in session)
Sept. 23, Thu. - End of late registration period and last day to add or
withdraw from a course for G1-G5 graduate students. SPD/GSP graduate students
may continue to withdraw. ALL transactions that were handled by the telephone
registration system for SPD students must now be done either in-person or by
telephoning the Registrar's Office.
Sept. 24, Fri. - Last day for students to file applications for December -
January graduation. Graduate students should file at the Graduate School, SPD
students at the School of Professional Development and Health Sciences
students at the HSC Offices of Student Services.
Oct. 11, Mon. - Columbus Day (Classes are in session)
Oct. 29, Fri. - Last day for undergraduates to withdraw from the University
and still be eligible to return next semester. Last day for SPD/GSP students
to withdraw from one or all courses. Last day for removal of Incomplete
grades from Spring '99 and Summer '99.
Nov. 2, Tues. - Election Day (Classes are in session)
Nov. 11, Thu. - Veterans Day (Classes are in session)
Nov. 17-24, Wed - Tue - Prime Time for students. (Intensive academic advising
period. Formal student evaluation of instructors & courses.) Telephone
registration activities will no longer be available for Fall 1999
transactions. Withdrawals and P/NC's can be processed in-person at the
Registrar's Office.
Nov. 22, Mon. - Telephone Registration begins for Spring semester (Schedules
with registration days/times will be announced prior to registration.)
Nov. 23, Tue. - Last day for undergraduates to withdraw from a course or
change courses to or from Pass/No Credit.
Nov. 25-27 Th-Sat. - Thanksgiving Recess. Evening classes will be held on
Wednesday. No classes held on Saturday, November 27.
Nov. 29, Mon. - CLASSES RESUME.
Dec. 11, Sat. - Last day of classes for courses that meet on Saturdays.
Finals held Saturday, Dec. 18th during regular class time.
Dec. 12, Sun. - Graduation Ceremony scheduled for December graduates.
Dec.13, Mon. - Last day of classes (Mon-Friday course offerings). Last day to
withdraw from the University, (SPD/GSP students must have SPD approval; See
Oct. 29 note above.) Last day for graduate students to submit thesis and
dissertations to the Graduate School for December graduation.
Dec. 14, Tues. READING DAY (No classes, no finals, no labs, no make up exams,
etc. should be held on this day; Study Day only)
Dec. 15, Wed. - Final examinations begin.
Dec. 22 Tues. - Final examinations end; fall semester ends. Last day for
departments to submit Completion Statements for December master's and
doctoral degree candidates.

Medicine, Dental Medicine students see HSC academic calendar for Fall 1999
classes to begin and modular dates.
