 Aug. 13-24, Mon - Fri. Final two weeks of advance registration for the fall 2001
 semester. 

 Aug. 24, Fri. Campus Residences new student check-in.

 Aug. 25, Sat. Stony Brook Welcome & Orientation Day 1 (Required for all new
 undergraduate students)

 Aug. 26, Sun. Stony Brook Welcome & Orientation Day 2 (Required for all new
 undergraduate students)

 Aug. 27, Mon. Classes begin. Late registration begins with a $30 late fee assessed
 for students who have not yet registered. Graduate, G1-G5 students (Non
 SPD/GSP) - Last day for removal of Incomplete grades from the spring semester.
 Last day for departments to advance doctoral students to candidacy.

 Aug. 29, Wed. Senior Citizen Auditor Program registration (telephone
 631.632.9493 for information.)

 Sept. 3, Mon. Labor Day Holiday - Classes are not in session.

 Sept. 4, Tues. All Students - Last day to drop a course without incurring tuition liability.
 Undergraduates must have 'Permission of Instructor' to add a course in the second week of classes
 (Tuesday, September 4th - 10th). Undergraduate adds/section changes must be done in-person at the
 Registrar's Office or through the academic department.

 Sept. 10, Mon. Applied to ALL students: Last day to drop a course without a "W" (withdrawal)
 being recorded. Undergraduates and SPD/GSP students - End of late registration period. Last day to add
 a course. 
 Undergraduate students - Last day to change status to or from full-time/part-time. 
 Graduate (non-SPD/GSP) students Last day to add by telephone. All adds for this group of students may be
 done by calling the Registrar's Office during business hours or in-person at the Registrar's Service Window.
 Tuition and fee liability remains applicable. Last day of 30% tuition liability

 Sept. 11, Tues. Last day for students to file applications for December and January graduation. Graduate
 students should file at the Graduate School, SPD students at the School of Professional Development and
 Health Sciences students at the HSC Offices of Student Services.

 Sept. 17, Mon. CLASSES WILL NOT MEET AFTER 5PM in observance of Rosh
 Hashanah. 
 Graduate students (G1-G5, Non SPD/GSP) - End of late add period and last day to withdraw from a
 course. All withdrawals result in "W" being recorded (See September 10th Deadline). Last day of 50%
 Tuition Liability.
 ALL transactions that were handled by the telephone registration system for SPD/GSP students
 must now be done either in-person or by telephoning the Registrar's Office.

 Sept. 18-19,Tue-Wed. Classes will NOT be in session in observance of Rosh Hashanah.

 Sept. 26, Wed. Classes will not meet AFTER 5PM ON Wednesday, September 26th in
 observance of Yom Kippur. 

 Sept. 27, Thurs. Classes will NOT be in session in observance of Yom Kippur.  

 Oct. 8, Mon. Classes are in Session

 Nov. 2, Fri. Undergraduates & SPD/GSP students only - Last day for removal of
 Incomplete grades from the spring semester. 
 Undergraduates - Last day for to withdraw from a course or change courses to
 or from Pass/No Credit. 
 Full-time students must maintain Full-time status (minimum of 12 credits). 
 SPD/GSP students - Last day to withdraw from one or all courses.

 Nov. 12-16, Mon-Fri. Prime Time for students. Intensive academic advising
 period (Formal student evaluation of instructors & courses).

 Nov. 19-25, Mon-Sat. Thanksgiving Break. Classes not in session Monday,
 November 19 through Saturday, November 24.

 Nov. 26, Mon. CLASSES RESUME. 
 Telephone Registration begins for Spring semester Graduate Students/Class
 G1-G5's begin registering.

 Dec. 13, Thurs. Last day of classes. Last day to withdraw from the University,
 (SPD/GSP students must have SPD approval; See Nov. 2nd note). Last day for
 graduate students to submit thesis and dissertations to the Graduate School for
 December graduation.

 Dec. 14, Fri. READING DAY - No classes, no finals, no labs, no make up exams,
 etc. Should be held on ths day; Study Day Only.

 Dec. 15, Sat. Finals examinations for Saturday courses. Finals held during
 scheduled class time.

 Dec. 17, Mon. Final examinations begin for courses held Monday - Friday.

 Dec. 21, Fri. Final examinations end; fall semester ends. Last day for departments
 to submit Completion Statements for December master's and doctoral degree
 candidates.
