Graduate Admission/Application
Please read this completely, before you
contact us via
email, phone, FAX, or surface/snail-mail.
Admission is based upon the faculty's assessment of the applicant's
aptitude for research and the compatibility of his or her
interests to match with the active research programs and
capabilities of the department. Applicants are advised to
pay particular attention to their statements of purpose
(page 3 of the application form). Minimum requirements,
in addition to those of the Graduate School, are as follows:
- A. A bachelor's degree in engineering, mathematics, physics, chemistry,
or a closely related area from an accredited college or university.
- B. A minimum grade average of at least B in all courses in engineering,
mathematics, and science.
- C. Results of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) General Test.
(Part-time master's students are exempt.)
- D. For foreign students, results of the TOEFL exam with a
score of at least 600, or approved equivalent.
Even though the Graduate School requires only 550, our
department has a higher standard of 600.
- E. Acceptance by both the Department of Materials Science
and Engineering and the Graduate School.
